(i)        Quadratic Equation and its roots
(ii)       Solving Quadratic Equations
·
      The general form of quadratic equation is ax2 + bx + c = 0, where a, b and c are constants. a¹0 and x is unknown.
·       The roots of the quadratic equation can be determined by:
o   Factorisation
o   Completing the square
o   Quadratic formula
·

Question 1 : Q1/D15/030520
Solve the quadratic equation k2k – 12 = 0 by completing the square.

                                                                                                  (4 marks)

Question 2 : Q2/D15/030520

The diagram shows a polygon ABCDE such that AB = AE = 5x cm, CD = 8x cm and DE = (x + 4) cm. If the area of the polygon is 84 cm2,
(a) show that 5x2 + 8x – 21 = 0,                                             (3 marks)

(b) find the length of wire needed to form the polygon.        (5 marks)
